Alpha Lipoic Acid - What is it?

Alpha Lipoic Acid is a fatty acid that is found in every cell in the human body. As well as converting blood sugar (glucose) into energy, it is also a powerful antioxidant. Unlike the more common antioxidants vitamins C and E, Alpha Lipoic Acid functions in fat and water enabling it to enter all parts of every cell. For instance Alpha Lipoic acid is able to cross the blood brain barrier, protecting the brain from free radical damage. It also helps to form another important antioxidant called Glutathione.
